Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?

Every day you faithfully cleanse, scrub (if needed), tone & moisturize your facial skin to keep it looking healthy & young looking. Sometimes, your skin may not always have that beautiful glow. This could be that the scrub you use in your regular skin maintenance routine just isn’t doing what it should, perhaps you need to take the next step in exfoliating your skin called microdermabrasion.

Sounds kind of harsh doesn’t it? Microdermabrasion is not harsh (unless you are going to a dermatologist for the therapy); basically, it’s scrubbing off the dead skin cells at a “micromanaging” level. There are great products that will gently lift dead skin cells while exfoliating your skin to remove the old skin and to show off the new. Using a quality product 1 – 2 times per week, depending on your skin, helps to rejuvenate your skin and give back its healthy glow.

Microdermabrasion – The Process

What happens is that the top layer of dead skin cells will be removed by the gentle motions that are made between the skin and the buffer, your skin will show a little redness and irritation due to the friction. This reaction is your clue that the microdermabrasion process is working. Only “buff” your skin no more than 2 minutes, starting out at 1 minute, per application; Continuously move the buffer and the microderm abrasion product over your facial skin avoiding the eye area (don’t forget your neck!), rinse off and apply moisturizer (even if the microdermabrasion product already has it).

olay-microdermabrasion-picMicroderm Abrasion can minimize large pores, age spots and acne scars, reduce pigment irregularities and fine lines and wrinkles. The microderm abrasion process can be done by both men and women. Please do not use any microdermabrasion product near your eyes. This process is not recommended if you have active Rosacea, heavy acne, warts, open sores, Eczema, Psoriasis, Lupus, or taking anit-coagulants.

If a microdermabrasion scrub doesn’t give you that glow you’re looking for (even after several weeks), a chemical peelwould be your next step. You can find a number of quality products on the market today; you can start by searching the Murad and NaturalSkinShop websites (click the images to the right for more information).

With the right microdermabrasion scrub, you will be able to provide your skin a renewed look. You will be able to find scrubs for both the face and the body. You may also want to invest in a buffer to help you apply the product and remove the unwanted dead skin cells.
